After graduating from the Department of Business Administration in Hamburg University in 1989, Joachim Behrendt worked at Lüneburg University, Germany, and earned his PhD degree in accounting and finance in 1993. He worked as guest lecturer in accounting and finance at the German-Speaking Department of Management at Marmara University, before changing to London School of Economics and Political Science between 1997 and 1999, where he conducted research on capital market based tax policy of companies under risk. He worked as part-time lecturer on management accounting at LSE and at Birkbeck College. Joachim Behrendt has been providing management consulting services in Germany, UK, Romania, Turkey and Poland. Afterwards Behrendt lectured accounting and finance at Boğaziçi University’s management department as Assistant Professor between 1999 and 2002, and became part-time lecturer in Entrepreneurship in 2010. In 2000, he founded two companies in Istanbul, one of them being nexum, one of the fastest-growing IT and digital agency services companies in Turkey, the other one BIC Behrendt International Consulting, a management consulting firm. With the experience he had gained through years, he founded BIC Angels Investment in 2012. BIC Angels Investment became one of the biggest Angel Network in Turkey. Joachim Behrendt made more than 30 investments and he has been elected the “Angel Investor of the Year” by eTohum, one of the essential players of the Turkish Entrepreneurship Ecosystem. With almost 100 investors in BIC Angel Investments, and more than 500 startups screened every year, Behrendt continues to support promising startups in Turkey as angel investor.
